"Trent (vocals, keyboards) and Wayne (guitars and bass guitar) virtually approached 'Innocent God' as a creative and personal catharsis. With a new attitude toward their music and a new technology company behind them, the Gardners believe Magellan (which they formed in 1990) is surging forward. The San Francisco Bay-area brothers are joined by prog rock veteran Robert Berry on the album. "Innocent God" is really a transitional album. There's been a musical niche we've been in for the last few years. We've been in the process of moving out of traditional '70s-style progressive rock. Trent says. "Creating long progressive rock songs is difficult. We've taken fewer ideas for songs and developed them more."
