Parmis ses nombreux projets, Mike Portnoy fait partie d'un groupe tribute de Led Zeppelin nommé "Hammer of the Gods". Ce dernier vient de réaliser un double cd et dvd intitulé "Two Nights in North America". Outre le batteur de Dream Theater, le groupe comprend également Paul Gilbert (guitares), Dave LaRue (basse) et Dabiel Gildenlöw (chants).
